Udupi, Oct 25: The programme of distributing the funds that were collected by good Samaritan Ramanji during Sri Krishna Janmashtami celebrations by donning the 'Drugs Karkotaka' costume, to the needy people, was held at Bhujanga Park here on Wednesday, October 24.
A total amount of Rs 70,000 was distributed to needy people. Priyanka Mary Francis, DC of the district, handed over the aid to the chosen people.
Speaking on the occasion, Priyanka Mary said, "A programme held with a good intention needs to be encouraged. Ramanji, who was zero, has come up the hard way in his life. None of the people who don costumes during the festivals donate their earnings. All have to support Ramanji, who works selflessly for the betterment of the society,"
Retired teacher Vasanth Shetty lauded Ramanji and said, "Ramanji did not possess anything earlier. Today he has earned the love and faith of all the people because of his noble deeds,”'
The collected amount was distributed to differently-abled student Chaithanya, Shirva Vidyavardhaka Kannada School and Namma Bhoomi organization.
Damodar Acharya of CWC organization, Y Bhaskar Shetty, administrative officer of Shirva Vidyavardhaka Sangha, V Subbaiah Hegde, convener of Shirva Vidyavardhaka Sangha and Santhosh Saralebettu, secretary of working journalists' association were present on the dais.
Hariprasad welcomed the gathering and convener of Press Club Nagaraja Rao compered the programme.
