Mangaluru, Nov 2: Vikas Pre-University College, here and department of Pre-University Education, D K district, in the city, jointly organised Mangaluru Taluk level (city range) inter Pre-University College Sports Meet 2018-19 at Mangala Stadium, in the city on November 2.
The long awaited event was inaugurated by Vikas M Puthran, senior sports assistant, BSNL and managing advisor, ATOMN Fitness, Mangaluru. He advised the young athletes to take sports as a career instead of limiting it to a mere profession. He reminded them that the government and other organizations are amply supporting the sports personnel and urged them to make use of such opportunities and make the country proud through sports.
Vikas M Puthran and Krishna J Palemar hoisted sports flag of both department of Pre-University Education, DK district, and Vikas PU College, Mangaluru, the host college respectively. Puthran received the Olympic Torch from the state and national level champions of Vikas PU College and witnessed the march past by the students.
Krishna J Palemar, chairman, Vikas Group of Institutions and former minister of Karnataka state, who presided over the inaugural function, appreciated the students’ enthusiastic march past and also urged the parents to come forward and accept sports as a respectful and promising career. He also recalled how he supported the development of sports in Mangaluru by allotting sufficient funds for various development endeavours in the sports field including constructing synthetic track in the Mangala Stadium. Lack of participation by any of the officials distressed him and was a matter of concern to him which Palemar assured he would bring to the notice of the higher authorities.
Dhanyashree, national level Kabaddi player was felicitated by the dignitaries.
Prof T Rajaram Rao, principal, Vikas PU College, welcomed the gathering. J Koragappa and Suraj Kumar Kallya, trustees, Vikas Group of Institutions, Dr Ananth Prabhu G, director, Vikas Edu Solutions, Parthasarathi J Palemar, coordinator, Vikas Group of Institutions, Ayshwarya Rao, commerce in-charge, Vikas PU College and Purushotham Poojary, secretary, district Amateur Kabaddi Association, were also present on the occasion. Ajith Rai lecturer in Kannada, Vikas PU College compered the function.
