Bantwal: Police raid illegal sand den - confiscate items worth lacs of rupees

Bantwal, Nov 5: The police raided an illegal sand den that was functioning in Mularpatna near Punjalkatte in the taluk on Sunday November 4. During the raid, they confiscated assets worth lacs of rupees.

The police personnel stated that items worth about Rs 58 lac including two country-made iron boats, a Hitachi make backhoe, and nine tipper trucks were confiscated during the operation. The things so taken into possession as well as stock of sand were handed over to the department of geology and mines.

The operation was conducted on the basis of information passed on about illegal sand extraction with the help of machinery being undertaken at Mularpatna. The information was passed on by the personnel on patrol duty at Badagabellur. The sand extraction was being conducted on the banks of River Phalguni located within the limits of the rural police station here. During the raid, workers fled from the spot.

Local assistant superintendent of police, Hrishikesh Sonawane, police circle inspector, T D Nagaraj, rural police station sub-inspector, Prasanna and others took part in the raid.
