Panaji, Nov 7 (TOI): The Panaji police has registered a non-cognisable offence against unknown persons on a complaint filed by the state secretary of Mahila Congress, Diya Shetkar, alleging that she was threatened with gang rape if she campaigned against a politician in Shiroda constituency.
On Monday, she visited the office of the director general of police, Goa, Muktesh Chander, and submitted a written complaint against criminal intimidation, death and gang rape threats, outraging the modesty of a woman and other offences.
Shetkar, a lawyer, in another written complaint to the women's police station in Panaji, alleged that she got a call early on Sunday asking her to "not to do anything against him (the politician) in Shiroda constituency".
The supporter of the politician, who she has named in the complaint, used "abusive and vulgar" language, while delivering the threat to her, she said.
Mandrem and Shiroda are in the news after Congress MLAs Dayanand Sopte and Subhash Shirodkar joined the BJP.
Former BJP MLA Mahadev Naik during a meeting on Sunday, after returning from a private visit to the US, slammed the BJP for inducting Shirodkar into the party fold and vowed to defeat him.
