Jet Airways to resume Dubai-Mangaluru direct flight after four months

Dubai, Nov 16 : Following a report on daijiworld about speculation on discontinuing Mangaluru-Dubai daily direct flight from December, panic-struck passengers who booked tickets during the Christmas season flooded queries to Jet Airways offices in Dubai and elsewhere.

A Jet Airways official speaking to daijiworld clarified that due to operational reasons, currently Mangaluru-Dubai and Mangaluru-Abu Dhabi flights will be discontinued from December 5, 2018, but daily flight service will resume after four months. Some passengers have been informed through email, and the rest will be informed in the coming days. For all passengers, alternate arrangements of Dubai-Mumbai-Mangaluru and same return route will be arranged.

There are speculations that Tata Sons is expected to buy a stake in Jet Airways to rescue the airline from its current turbulent economic conditions. Though Tata Sons has not denied these reports, on Friday, November 16 it said that the discussions are still in the preliminary stage. It is reported that Prime Minister Modi intervened and requested Tata Sons to explore the possibility of reviving the airline.

Only the opening of new Kannur airport and Jet Airways' revival will only tell whether Jet Airways would resume Mangaluru flights to the UAE after four months or discontinue them permanently.

Jet Airways will also stop non-stop flights between Kozhikode-Doha, Thiruvananthapuram-Doha from December 3 and Kochi-Doha from December 5.

    Last time I booked my flight tickets through UAE Exchange & they gave me a very good deal. The flight they gave me had 1-2 hour layover in both directions. To & fro journey, all the flights were punctual except for 30 minutes delay for takeoff at Beijing once as there were around 30 -50 flights trying to land & takeoff at around the same time. The journey over North Pole was blissful.

    An airline flight to break even in terms of the costs, needs 80% passenger utilization, that too
    with Jet fuel costs while the Barrel of oil is 65 dollar a barrel.
    Every 6 dollars increase in oil price increase needs 10% more passenger utilization.
    There is not going to be any profit once the oil price crosses 80 dollars a barrel, even if there is 100% passenger utilization.
    All airlines make profit if they are having full 100% Business class and First class passengers, with even 80% passenger utilization in Economy class.
    Moreover, the profits and losses for Airlines is further influenced by state level taxes on Jet Fuel and further with Landing and Parking fees of the airports.
    There is possibility that that the Landing and Parking fees for the Kerala airports are negligible and therefore all airlines prefer to use the Kerala airports.

    IN FUTURE PEOPLE OF MANGALORE WILL TRAVEL IN TRAIN FROM KANNUR TO MANAGLORE AND MANGALORE TO KANNUR ......
    SO THAT THEY CAN SAVE NEARLY 15K.................

    @Roy,

    In addition to your observations, I would say, that Air lines / Kannur Airport can look into providing A/c luxury coach services to passengers heading / returning from Mangalore through KSRTC main bus stand can find convenient A/c bus connections to Udupi and Kundapur as well.

    Similarly A/c luxury buses can be provided to Madikeri / Mysore KSRTC Main bus stands as well.

    Passengers may also avail ML-kannur train services, at certain times as well.

    People will save paying huge sums to Taxi Mafia, save on high Gulf/MLore air fares too!!

    To survive these air line should cut cost...
    For each flight two pilots mandatory...you cannot cut costs here..
    But instead of 10 air hostess bring it to 3 or 4...
    Reduce their salary from 10,000 per month to 5,000/- month..

    Cancel all inflight serving meals / tiffin etc..
    Give only drinking water..
    Increase fairs every 6 months... Reduce operational cost... Then only any airlines can survive 😎

    Government carrier going to survive because of tax payers money...

    This Year Jet airways completed its 25 years in Avaition on May 5th ,
    what is happening with them , they need to sort out the issue , they should not have blocked the tickets from purchasing when the condition is not so favour , no expectation after four months

    Closure of Jet Airlines is a big loss for Mangaloreans. Hope Jet Airways will continue Dubai-Mangalore flight. Jet is one of the best airlines in India. I always prefer Jet Airlines whether Internationally or within India. Only last time, I had to wait at Bombay Airport for long time and later on came to know that it's because of closure of run way due to VIP movement. Sometimes there will be delays but 99% of my trips by Jet were in time and without any problems. Also, good in cabin services with service with smiling face.

    Please check the Jet airways timetable. The Mangalore Dubai flight is listed for booking from 31 March 19 to 19 oct 19 and similarly Mangalore to Abu dhabi is 1 April 19 to 10 oct 19. So no reason to speculate.

    Most of cabcelled routes are around Kannur Airport as they want to shift these cancelled flights to Kannur. For those booked on Direct Dubai or Abu Dhabi to Manglore there is no option other than accepting Via bombay flights as people cannot afford to buy fresh tickets on other carrier on high fares.

    There is no point in rescuing any airlines. If any airlines is making loss, then they need to adapt to the market. They need to research, what the people want. The same thing is with the airport. Budget airlines are the future. Etihad was already a shareholder with Jet. If it's still making loss, then they have to adapt according to the market condition. The airlines in the gulf are backed by their govt's. It's difficult for Indian airlines to compete with them.

    I have travelled to the US Westward (London), Eastward (Hong Kong & Thai) & over the North pole (Beijing & Dubai) & I'm more happier with the airlines from China, Hong Kong & Thai. The staff never get angry & the layover is minimal.

    Effect of Kannur International Airport has started because 90% of passengers traveling from Dubai/Abu Dhabi/Qatar to Mangalore International Airport are from Kassargod or Kannur. I’m sure, Opening of Kannur International Airport will very much effect Mangalore International Airport.

    Try to travel from this route one day...most of passengers speak malayalam. If you cannot travel then go to Mangalore Airport parking spot most of them will be KL registration vehilcles.

    It means hard time for mangaloreans who have to suffer just at christmas times.If our mangalore airport was an international airport ,had no problems.Only gulf and nothing more.No reliable airways.Hope we can reach with a reliable flight at right time and regularly.Just take example of kerala.

    Let Air india express increase their flights between abu dhabi and also dubai. From Abu Dhabi it is only weekly 4 which is not enough especially if jet discontinuous. From dubai there will be daily 2 but that too will not be sufficient given the load in the coming days...

    Nothing will happen after 4 months - Today is not tomorrow.
    The current Govt is responsible for making loss. Jet has given good service since it beginning and they have well established connecting routes domestic and international sectors. Govt should intreact in bad times and support loss making airlines as they are supporting Air India .
