Udupi: ‘Kambala Kala’ Award for Scriptwriter Uppinakote, Teacher Sharavati

Udupi, Nov 21:
Krishnaprasad Uppinakote, scriptwriter of Tulu movie ‘Kadalamage’, and Sharavati U R, winner of the state’s excellent teacher award, have been chosen for the prestigious ‘Kambala Kala Award’, instituted by Udupi Kambala Kala Mattu Sahitya Vedike, and Disha Communications, Katpady.

The award will be presented in a public ceremony scheduled to be held at Ambady P V N Higher Primary School, Katpady, on Sunday November 23, presided over by K P Acharya, correspondent, Kaup Vidhyaniketan Education Institutions.
 
K Satyendra Pai, president, Katpady Rotary Club, will distribute prizes to winners of various competitions on the same occasion. Dr A Ravindranath Shetty, Lions district former governor, Harischandra Amin, former zonal president, Jaycees, lawyer Arun Kundar Kallugadde, editor, ‘Kadala Pempu’ Tulu monthly bulletin, and Rama Master, head teacher, Ambady P V N Higher Primary School, will be the chief guests on the occasion.
 
The Yakshagana ‘Bhasmasura Mohini’, will be staged by Ambalapady Yaksha Ranjani troupe and ‘Natya Vaibhav’ by members of self-help groups and local school students, said a press release issued by Dr U K Shetty of Kambala Kala and Sahitya Vedike.
 
Profiles:

Krishnaprasad Uppinakote was born at Uppinakote near Bramavar, and did his initial schooling here. He has written scripts for several movies and worked with popular Kannada cine actor Dharma for four years. He became popular in Sandalwood when he penned the script for ‘Kadalamage’, in 2006. His first video album in Kannada, ‘O Gelati’, will also be released in December.
 
Sharavati U R is a native of Talaguppa, in Shimoga district, and is a teacher at Paniyoor Primary School. She has is known for her expertise in fine arts, Hindi, and Gamak music.  She has been actively involved in education and literary unions and has also bagged the  ‘Maranna Mada’ state award conferred on women litterateurs. Shaeavati has trained over 12,000 women in self-employment and has composed articles for ‘Navaneeta’, a collection of poems and the book ‘Swa-Abhivraddi Margadarshi’.
