Rahul hopes RBI Governor will show Modi 'his place'

New Delhi, Nov 19 (IANS): Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday charged the Centre with destroying institutions and hoped Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Urjit Patel will show Prime Minister Narendra Modi "his place". He accused Modi of attempting to "destroy the RBI" through his "puppets" and "cronies".

"Modi and his coterie of cronies, continue to destroy every institution they can get their hands on. Today, through his puppets at the RBI Board Meet he will attempt to destroy the RBI. I hope Patel and his team have a spine and show him his place," Gandhi tweeted.

The RBI board meeting on Monday comes amid growing tension between the Centre and the RBI after the Finance Ministry recently sought discussions under the never-used-before Section 7 of the RBI Act which empowers the government to issue directions to the central bank.

The board is expected to take up the liquidity crisis that initially triggered the tiff between the government and the RBI.

    Dear Flavian,

    Changing names of places did not start after 2014. Most Colonial names have been renamed before 2014 including our own Mangaluru. If Narendra Modi was in power in those time, think of noise that would have been created. The Change in names does not in any way affect minorities livelihood. Most invadors wanted to uproot the cultures of natives at those times. Many destroyed temples as it was symbols of the unbeleivers in their sense and thought. That is why the change.

    India is a secular country and not known as majority Hindu government.
    Minorities too are Indians and not back stabbers. They do not deserve to be discreminated by Hindu rule. No government is for permenent.

    Mr Flav. Dont Hype things up. There is no Hindu rule in India. There will be no Hindu rule because there is no religious Law for Hindus to abide like say a Sharia Law. Let there be a commo civil code. It is the Congress who is against a common civil code. In a country of Billion plus people few abberations are made to look like an organised patten.

    @Mahesh,
    Looking at the reality in around our villages, even after seven decades after independence, majority Hindus are mostly worried about Roti, Kapda and Makaan with toilets, clean drinking water and basic health care, good roads and uninterrupted power supply and not worried about the names of roads, airports, seaports and cities or gigantic statues for that matter. It is only some who have more than enough are the happy crowd.

    Government is superior than RBI..
    Government can make any policy decisions for RBI depending on the best interest of the country... If government wants they can introduce different parallel currency and another reserve bank for this countries development.. Government has all the powers!
