Odisha cancels beer bottling plant after protests

Bhubaneswar, Nov 19 (IANS): Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday cancelled the permission given to a beer bottling plant to come up in Dhenkanal district following protests from locals.

"After receiving the report of Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) on tree cutting in Balarampur village, the Chief Minister ordered cancellation of the beer bottling plant in that location," said a statement from the Chief Minster's Office.

Felling of trees for brewery factory in Jhinkargadi forest at Balarampur village had sparked tension in the area and invited sharp criticism from opposition parties and green activists.

Earlier, the Chief Minister directed the district administration to stop cutting of trees at the proposed beer bottling plant.
