AAP MLAs don party caps inside Assembly on foundation day

New Delhi, Nov 26 (IANS): To celebrate the sixth Foundation Day of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), its MLAs on Monday donned the party caps inside the Delhi Assembly. The BJP demanded strict action against the MLAs.

"Our party completed six years today and to mark the day and to celebrate it we wore the caps. I don't see any issue in this," party MLA and spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj said.

This was not the first time the party MLAs wore the caps inside the House.

"When we came in power for the first time, that time also we were wearing the caps in the Assembly. At that time the MLAs from other parties created a ruckus but nothing happened today," Bhardwaj told IANS.

"We won the election on the basis of the party symbol. We will be fine if our BJP friends wear their party caps on their party's foundation day," he said.

According to the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business, 2002 of Delhi Assembly, the members, while present in the House, "shall not display flags, emblems or any exhibits in the House".

Meanwhile, BJP MLA and Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta wrote to Speaker Ram Niwas Goel criticizing the act and demanding action against the MLAs.

"It is sad that AAP MLAs, including Chief Minister, donned caps inside the House during the proceeding... We want strict actions," Gupta wrote.
