Udupi: Tension builds up again at Sasthan tollgate

Udupi, Nov 28: The situation at Sasthan tollgate, where ongoing protest against collection of toll charges from vehicles bearing local registration numbers has been on, has worsened. 

The protesters gathered near the tollgate at Sasthan located on national highway 66 where a tollgate stands. The protesters who mobbed the tollgate, expressed strong resentment at police circle inspector, Srikanth. 

When members of Rashtriya Heddari Jagriti Samiti held emergency meeting on Tuesday November 27 evening and then crowded the tollgate in large numbers, the situation threatened to go out of control. 

Over 500 protesters joined together at the toll plaza and raised slogans against the company that is collecting toll charges. During the last some days, the toll gate at Sasthan has witnessed several protests so far. The protesters have been demanding waiver of toll collection for vehicles bearing local registration numbers.

    When Government increases oil and Gas prices, they justifies it is for infrastructures. Then whey we pay These tolls when already collected by government. This is just a loot.

    It is simple, create a bypass for locals, and charge those that are not locals and do not make locals pay the toll by compelling pass through main tollgate and make them pay. The resistance is real. MP should join the fight and not seek his own benefits.
