Mangaluru: Gang rape accused were drug addicts, three among them minors

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Nov 28: The police who are investigating the gang rape case at Thota Bengre, have learnt that seven persons were involved with this heinous crime. Out of them, four have been arrested. The police are now hunting for the remaining three accused.

A young man from Bihar and girl from Kalladka, working in a private factory at Kalladka had visited Thannirbavi beach on November 18 afternoon. They then went to Thota Bengre beach when they were attacked by a gang of seven. The youth was beaten up and the girl was gang raped in the presence of the boy, it is said.

Police sources said that the gang was under the influence of drugs and therefore behaved inhumanly. The gang collected the girl's cellphone number and threatened the couple of murdering them if they conveyed information to police.

The police have taken this case in all seriousness and the city police commissioner is personally supervising progress in investigation.

The young couple which was at the receiving end of the inhuman act had not revealed the incident to anyone, as they were overtaken by the fear of their images getting sullied. However, as the accused continued to harass them over phone, they visited Bantwal police station to file complaint. The police then asked them to file complaint in the police station in the city as crime happened here. After news about this crime began to float in social websites, police commissioner noticed them and summoned the couple to the city and got full information.

After a complaint was registered in women's police station, on the basis of telephone numbers recorded in the lady's cellphone, the police could arrest four on Monday night.

It is said that the youth is aged 18. He stays at Kalladka but does not know any other language than Hindi. He and the girl are in love with each other since the last two years.

The police, along with the girl and the boy, visited the desolate place at Thota Bengre where this incident happened, and inspected the area. The locals, during this visit, urged the police for taking stringent steps against the offenders.

It's easy to blame it on 'drugs'. Please don't get your own agenda mixed up with this issue. It's a serious matter. I'm pretty sure they weren't on any 'drugs'. (I've done fair research on consumption and effects). These guys were sadist people with a very disgusting mentality. I wish they get beaten to death . They have committed a heinous crime and have also let down the trust people had with the safety of this city.

Why are you narrating unknown facts and your own speculations?
Mistake lies also on the part of the couple too.
They explored two beaches (Tannirubavi is notoriously known for bad incidents right from forgone days). Now let police break the clue as to druggist and the source of drugs providers. Is that going to take place? I doubt.

Law can only deal its prescribed way, hanging everyone for crime is not the right way to go. We are not a Islamic country, we have our own established laws.

Remember keeping a criminal in jail for life is more hasrher punishment than hanging at once.

If the gang wasn't on drugs then they would have definitely got the couple's married with dhoom dham.

If the police knew local Minor's have been consuming drug's on Beaches then why didn't they arrest them before they start behaving inhumanely and arrest the peddler. Some of the Minor's must have raped many girls before. That's why they have Good Experience in raping Girl's in Public Places. They might be carrying condom's and consuming drug's in public Places. They should be arrested atleast 17 to 20 year's without any bail as they were 7 of them and they all gang raped.

    @ Jennifer Mangalore:
These are the named victims and look like they are locals:
All of them are residents of Bengre, Mangaluru.
The arrested have been identified as Prajwal Suvarna alias Prajwal (25), Arun alias Arun Ameen (26), Aditya Salian alias Adi (25) and Abdul Riaz alias Riaz alias Pitte (35).

This has nothing to do with locals or non locals, under drugs or not-its about the mentality that such men have and attitude towards women + the law does not help.

They should be convicted with the max punishment possible -in public even better so people dont dare to do it again.
For an acid attack the accused should be punished the same way-with an acid attack- hanging would be an easier death let them also face what victims go through, for rapes such men should be castrated.

Yes.. They should be castrated.. Good comment..what agony that girl must be going through! I second the comment of Jen here.. Let's not forget that she is an Indian if not kannadiga or mangalorean, above all she is a human being. Every one has the right to visit the beaches.
It's given to understand that one of the rapists marriage was fixed for Dec 2nd.. How these young girls are trapped by these rapists by getting married them. Once these wives cone to know the heinous acts of their husbands, they come out from the wedding bond. Here, some of the people accuse ladies/wives by their vulgar comments. So sad

May be a time to show the difference in handling this by current MLA Vedavyas Kamath. Take it to a closure, arresting all the evils and ensure they are behind bars... irrespective Drug addicts, minors... nothing. No excuse this time... or else such incidents will increase day by day. But major query I have is that some news published molested.... some reported rape attempt .... now this news says raped... why all these confusions... any ways, strict investigation and closure is expected.

what is happened to our peaceful Kudla. I remember the days when we were young and we use to enjoy the days with all our friends regardless which is our religions. we use to visit churches, temples & mosques together. no one was bothered which religion we are.
Now why so much hatred for each others religions . This is all happens because of political gains and we fools follow them and hate each others. Remember no one will come to help when we are in need other than friends and family members.
I wish that one day, our olden days will come back and we will enjoy with all our friends.

My relative, a young college going youth was a drug addict along with his friend circle in Mumbai.
Now, that young man and all of his drug addict friends have died one after the other.
Drug addiction, also called substance use disorder, is a disease that affects a person's brain and behavior. Like police, I also feel, probably, if they were not on drugs, they may not have committed such an heinous act.

Law is very weak and several loop holes for easy escape of the culprit. They were under the influence of drug and it is enough for the lawyer to prove them they are innocent. Even if the crime is comitted in broad day light with thousands of eye witness, the court proceedings takes years and years and finally the will end up without any punishments. only wastage of money and time.

    Kuchan,

I am residing in Kudla, so are you. Nobody I know are in the gang that got arrested/on the look-out in this case but I don't know about you. If the accused are outsiders, we the locals are partly responsible because its we who offer them jobs. Had we been ready to work as mason/ plumber/ helper or a waiter, the outsiders may not have come here.

You can't carelessly say Kudla is no more the same place it used to be. because if all (or part of) the youth happen to be locals, we are ashamed more than anybody else. You can't blame the couple for going to Bengre - this is not UP - our beaches are for the public visit irrespective of age/social status bar.

Nevertheless, if they happen to be outsiders, again they are Indians, though not Kannadigas.
