Amarinder in hospital following fever

Chandigarh, Nov 29 (IANS): Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh was on Wednesday admitted to the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) here after he developed fever.

"He has been advised bed rest after he developed slight fever. He has been kept in PGIMER hospital for the night and will be discharged tomorrow (Thursday) morning after completion of some tests," a spokesman for the Chief Minister said here.

The Chief Minister was taken to the PGIMER after he developed fever and complained of slight body ache. The doctors conducted various tests, the reports of which were normal. However, they decided to keep him in hospital overnight for some more tests, according to the spokesman.

The doctors believe that he is suffering from "routine viral" and have advised him rest, besides medication, he added.

Amarinder, 76, became Chief Minister of Punjab in March 2017, leading the Congress party to a thumping majority in Assembly elections. Earlier, he was Chief Minister from 2002 to 2007.
