Mangaluru: Thota Bengre infamous due to harassment of tourists

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Nov 29: Though the gang rape case that occurred at Thota Bengre has come to light trifle late, this issue of harassment to tourists and locals who visit Thannirbavi and Bengre areas for leisure is not new. Even a gang of miscreants had tried to loot a former deputy commissioner (DC) of the district!

During the period of 2003-05, the then DC who was newly married had been to Thannirbavi for sightseeing. The miscreants tried to loot the DC. Due to the incident, the DC had taken strict action and many culprits were arrested.

If the same measures that were implemented during that period continued, the illegal activities and acts of murder that take place today in these areas would not have happened. But the lax of control by the administration is evident by the fact that heinous crime like gang rape is still happening in Bengre area.

The easy availability of drugs in this part of the city is also a reason for increase in crimes. Moreover, Thannirbavi and Bengre are tourist spots which become easier for the anti-social elements to extract money and harass them.

Minister U T Khader has appreciated the quick action of the police in arresting the culprits and has announced a cash prize of Rs one lac for the team. In addition, Khader also promised that he will try to get compensation from the government for the victim girl of this incident. Quick action will also be taken to open an outpost in Bengre, informed Khader. The minister also requested the lawyers not to argue in favour of the alleged rapists.

One of the effective tools to bring the rapes under control can be by freezing all the movable and immovable properties of the accused until the case is finalized. No access for bank accounts, no money to hire lawyer or pay bribes. However, justice should be done on priority basis like fast track courts.

Constantly starring, stalking, and passing lewd comments at the girls/women at the beach is very annoying. A legislation to control such activities is also required. However, no legislation would solve these problems, unless the enforcement authorities walk an extra mile in enforcing these laws vigorously until the mind set of these sexual perverts is changed towards women. One must appreciate MLA Khader's initiative to do something positive to control these problems.

Build the motorable bridge across Gurupura river from Sultan Battery to Thannirbavi. Automatically beach goers and population will increase in that area, reducing the chances of isolation and outward incidents.

Lawyers will definitely argue... They will definitely fight the case for the culprits...
Even in Udupi MBBS student gang rape case.... A chaddi lawyer is arguing in behalf of rapists...
Even Asram Bapu case is handled by Chaddi lawyers....

Off course we know very well... These Mogaveeras are the backbone of Sanghis... In Moore there is no shortage for chaddis lawyers....
Then other community accused will also get a lawyer....

Even during pub attack... Culprits case was fought by Chaddis women lawyer...

Actually I am ashamed of these lawyers... Taking money they try to save a culprit... What a shame...
If anybody rapes their mother, wide or sister... And if they offer money means, will these lawyers fight their case.....

Harassing visitors and tourists to our beautiful beaches is not good. It will tarnish the image of the city. Police in civil dress should visit these areas as tourists and catch the goons red handed.

These goons should be given Death punishment. That's the only solution which will clean out our society.
This cannot be done because the power is in wrong hands. That is why these crimes are taken lightly.
    What's is wrong in eliminating bacteria's ?
Our police personnel's are busy competing with each other as to who will grow their stomach bigger! Poor Soldiers are protecting the border's for the people inside the country, People inside the country are killing innocent by raping and in the name of religion.

Tourism growth required peace and safety to the tourists without which the place will never become a tourist centre.

If the place has a history of being notorious and even earlier DC was harassed there, the police should have put in place a system to keep a vigil on that place.

They could have easily identified gangs roaming there frequently and warned them.

The negligence of police is on the face evident.

Even after the newly married ex DC tortured by the miscreants of this area some eight years ago the police didn't take necessary steps. The police outpost should be opened at Bengre only.
Even the police fear to enter this area after evening.
