Underwater rail network likely between Fujairah and Mumbai

Dubai, Nov 29: If everything goes well as planned, there will be an underwater rail network from Fujairah to Indian city of Mumbai, reports Khaleej Times.

National Advisor Bureau Limited managing director and chief consultant Abdulla Alshehhi recently said that there is plan to develop an underwater rail network from Fujairah to Mumbai.

Speaking at the UAE-India Conclave in Abu Dhabi, Alshehhi said, "In near future, residents might be able to travel from Fujairah to Indian city of Mumbai by undersea rail network. Apart from transit of passengers, there will be exchange of goods in the form of freshwater flowing from India to the UAE and oil being exported back through pipeline."

"This is a concept. We plan to connect Indian city of Mumbai with Fujairah through ultra-speed floating trains. The project aims to boost bilateral trade. There will be export of oil to India from Fujairah port and import of excess water from Narmada River, north of Mumbai. In addition, other GCC partners can also improve export and import," he told a gathering of businessmen and industry experts.

Alshehhi further said, "We will do feasibility study of the project. This is a concept, but a cool project to look at. The total rail network will be less than 2,000 kilometers,"

The UAE, India and others in the region will benefit by this floating underwater network, he informed. .

Better restart sea travel between Fujairah and Mumbai by introducing modern small sized fast moving ships. Let travel be cheaper for low salaried group.

India would benefit only if UAE funds 100% of the cost...
When they finish the project, world demand for oil would be very minimal with rock bottom prices.Indian Brains and Indian shoppers would be the major survival source for UAE since other GCC countries would be struggling as well.
How thirsty India can pump fresh water to UAE is a big question?

I request UAE govt study proposal very carefully. Present Govt. demonetized 85% of live circulating currency, imposed GST. first said two types passport for Indians and then retrieved proposal, as latest said Non-ECNR Indian immigrants employed abroad must register before returning if visited India on holiday- today that also retrieved. All messed up in 4.5 years. When ensured loosing in 2019 general election they want to build ram-temple though the land ownership dispute in highest court - heading towards chaos . Underwater rail network between Fujairah and Mumbai for trade and travel will be a marvelous idea indeed. Although the population of Fujaira and the U.A.E as a whole is negligible, the long term benefit for trade, commerce and even tourism will be a great proposition.

There was also a proposal in the pipeline for a Oil pipeline from either Turkmenistan or Iran to India via Pakistan, but because of the political sensitivity the plans were shelved for long time.

Connecting U.A.E. with India can be a historic link because it affects a long term relationship between India and Fujaira which goes back to the days of Vasco da Gama who stopped by in Fujaira nearly 500 years ago when he developed technical trouble with his motor boat and he stopped by at Fujaira for repairs that compelled him to utilize the labor force from Fujaira in order to proceed to Calicut in India.

History of the past has long reflections with what is being considered at present. Let us hope this project will go thru and that our link with Fujaira will come true.

What do you mean when you say the "link" of "our" people? Is it of Indians or of Christians through Vasco da Gama, the forerunner of the Portuguese empire in India?
