Pandit Jasraj's biography launched in India


Hyderabad, Dec 3 (IANS): "Rasraj: Pandit Jasraj", the first authorised biographical work on Pandit Jasraj, was launched here at the 46th Pandit Motiram and Pandit Maniram Annual Music Festival.

The book has been authored by noted writer and poet Sunita Budhiraja. It was launched in the presence or Anjani Kumar, Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, apart from Madhura Pandit Jasraj, Yogai Sharma and Durga Jasraj on Sunday, according to a statement.

"I am extremely excited and elated that this biography of Pandit Jasraj was launched in the presence of Madhura Pandit Jasraj, Durga Jasraj and other family members who have been very supportive in the creation of this biography," Budhiraja said.

"Rasraj: Pandit Jasraj" provides insights into the life and musical journey of Pandit Jasraj and has incidents and anecdotes from the 88-year life span of the living legend from the time of his birth to the time he played Tabla and then to his becoming the top most vocalist in Hindustani classical music.

The 550-page book was first launched in the US.

The Pandit Motiram and Pandit Maniram Annual Music Festival is conducted every year in the memory of Pandit Jasraj's father Pandit Motiram and his elder brother and Guru Pandit Maniram, here.
