Various Congress candidates in Rajasthan posing as CM, says Amit Shah

Jaipur, Dec 5 (IANS): On the last day of campaigning in Rajasthan, where polls for the 199-member Assembly are due on December 7, BJP President Amit Shah on Wednesday attacked the Congress saying many of its candidates were posing as future chief minister on their visit to various districts.

"The party lacks discipline, leadership, policies and principles. Like in the past, Congress leaders in the current assembly elections have tried to divide the society on the grounds of caste and religion," he said at a press conference at the BJP media centre in the state capital.

He said the opposition party has relied on family legacy as well as on appeasement of various sections of society. "We have played politics of performance and are contesting elections on the basis of development projects implemented in the state," said Shah.

He said Congress leaders stooped to new lows and used insulting words for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "Congress' real face came to the fore when its worker was prevented from raising the slogan of 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' while he was asked to chant slogans praising Sonia, Rahul and other senior leaders," he said.

Reacting to Rahul Gandhi's remark on Tuesday that Modi should not start his public meetings with 'Bharat Mata ki Jai', Shah said: "For Congress, 'Bharat Mata' may have no value, but for BJP 'Bharat Mata' is everything -- we can sacrifice everything for the cause of our motherland."

Shah expressed his confidence that BJP will form the government in the state with a majority.

As the campaigning ends today, the Prime Minister addressed a dozen gatherings across the state. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, his Madhya Pradesh counterpart Shivraj Chauhan and many others, too, pitched in to enable the party's return to power in Rajasthan.
