Musk's Boring Company postpones first tunnel launch in US

San Francisco, Dec 7 (IANS): Elon Musk's infrastructure and tunnel construction firm Boring Company has postponed the much-anticipated launch of its first tunnel under Los Angeles in the US.

"Boring Company product launch on Dec 18. More than a tunnel opening. Will include modded but fully road legal autonomous transport cars & ground to tunnel car elevators," Musk tweeted on Thursday.

The company was earlier slated to launch the tunnel on December 10 and reportedly said they would offer the first public test ride with the electric transport system inside the tunnel.

According to the Electrek, the company says it expects its first full system demonstration will be a short new tunnel and "loop" to get to Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles in four minutes.

Musk, however, said the launch has been delayed by a week but it will also include a "fully road legal autonomous transport cars", the report added.

Earlier in October, Musk had announced that the Boring Company was "almost done" with its maiden test tunnel and they would open the project to the public around December 10.

According to Musk, the company is building a watchtower at the exit of the tunnel with bricks made from dirt dug out of the tunnel.
