Cesare Prandelli appointed new head coach at Genoa

Rome, Dec 7 (IANS): Cesare Prandelli became the new head coach of struggling Genoa CFC, replacing Croatian coach Ivan Juric, the Serie A side announced Friday.

Juric's third spell as Genoa manager came to an end Thursday after just two months due to a skid of four defeats and three ties in Serie A, in addition to the Red and Blues being knocked out of the Coppa Italia at the hands of third-tier Virtus Entella Thursday, reports Efe news.

"Genoa Cricket and Football Club announces that it has entrusted the technical management of the (first) team to former Italy national team coach Cesare Prandelli," read the statement on Genoa's official website.

Prandelli, 61, arrives at Genoa after his spell with the United Arab Emirate's Al-Nasr club that ended on January 19.

The veteran Italian coach has managed several teams during his career, including Spain's Valencia, Turkish side Galatasaray, Italian clubs of Fiorentina, AC Parma, Hellas Verona and Atalanta, in addition to the Italian national team between 2010-14.

Currently, Genoa is in the lower half of the Italian top-tier league, holding the 14th spot overall with just 15 points in 14 matches, having scored 19 goals and conceded 29.
