Will bring Mallya back soon, says CBI welcoming UK court's judgement

New Delhi, Dec 10 (IANS): Welcoming a British court's judgement to extradite fugitive business tycoon Vijay Mallya to India, the CBI on Monday said it would bring him back soon.

"We welcome the decision and hope to bring Vijay Mallya back soon. CBI has its own inherent strengths. We worked hard on this case. CBI was always strong on facts and legally we were confident while pursuing extradition process," a CBI spokesperson said.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley also welcomed the UK court's judgement, calling it a "great day for India".

"No one who cheats India will go scot-free. The judgement of UK's court is welcome. An offender benefited during the UPA. The NDA brings him to book," Jaitley tweeted.

Giving its ruling following a prolonged litigation involving Mallya, who fled India in March 2016, the Westminster Magistrates Court in the UK said he must be extradited to India where he is accused of committing bank frauds amounting to Rs 9,000 crore.

The decision came six days after British national and middleman in the Rs 3,600-crore AgustaWestland VVIP chopper deal, Christian Michael, was extradited to India from Dubai.

Mallya has repeatedly denied fleeing from India and said he was ready to pay back the money he owed to Indian banks.

Proceedings are on before the Mumbai Special Court against Mallya under the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act.

Late in 2017, India filed extradition proceedings against Mallya which he has contested. He is currently on bail in London.

Every loan defaulters invariably got the permission to leave the country from BJP, and left. There is no doubt about it. Lalith Modi, Mallaya, Nirav Modi and Chokshi all are very close to BJP leadership, and they had the privilege to access the information regarding the government actions before leaving the Country. Lalit Modi was let off due to his wife's illness none other than by External Affairs Ministry on 'Humanitarian' grounds. Mallaya sought Jaitley's permission and left the nation. All the bank staff including bank Chairman supported Nirav Modi to loot the bank till he has escaped last minute from India. Mehul chokshi has got citizenship of another nation without the knowledge of Indian foreign office. India is not the nation for the innocent people, who believe in the Constitution and rule of law but belong to privilege class who loot and scoot with the help of the ruling class.

Wanted tycoon Vijay Mallya said earlier that he met Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to "settle matters" before he left India.

In London for the hearing of his extradition case, Mr. Mallya who is wanted on charges of fraud and money laundering amounting to around Rs. 9,000 crores said he met Mr. Jaitley before leaving India.

"I left because I had a scheduled meeting in Geneva, I met the finance minister before I left, repeated my offer to settle with the banks... that's the truth," he told reporters outside the London's Westminster Magistrates' Court. He said he had also told the minister that he was leaving for London.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley colluded with Vijay Mallya to let him flee. Now BJP will try to take credit of bringing back Mallya to India but in facts, he is given 'organised' escape.

By bringing Mallya, PM Modi government will deflect the criticism for the escape 'Chota Modi' who is enjoying his new country from Indian bank loot.
