Will fulfil farm loan waiver promise in 10 days: CM-designate Kamal Nath

Bhopal, Dec 14(IT): Congress's big promise that is said to have tilted the scales in its favour as against that of Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the farm loan waiver, will indeed be delivered in 10 days, reiterated Madhya Pradesh CM-designate, Kamal Nath in an exclusive interview with India Today TV.

Kamal Nath was announced as the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister-designate on Thursday night, who will meet Governor Anandiben Patel on Friday morning in Bhopal to discuss the government formation.

Speaking with India Today TV's Rajdeep Sardesai, Kamal Nath said, "As promised, farm loans will be waived within 10 days of government formation."

Asked if this was a 'jumla', Nath again assured that it will be delivered within time.

He added, "We will have to work out the budget, source funds for the waiver, but it will be done."

In its manifesto, the 'Vachan Patra', Congress had promised to waive off farm loans up to Rs 2 lakh.

The promise of farm loan waive has earned the Congress rich dividends in Madhya Pradesh thus bringing the party back in power here after a gap of 15 years.

After Rahul Gandhi's loan waiver promise during the campaigning for the November 28 polls, cultivators in the state stopped selling their paddy produce and stocked them to reap the benefits of the promised loan write-off, a farmer leader told PTI.

This was done to avoid paying loan installments to banks as sale proceeds would have been directly deposited in their accounts, he said.

But here in Karnataka, Congress's stand is different. Siddaramaiah is playing with farmers and also not allowed Kumarasawamy to keep his promise.

This is ridiculous and clearly political.
