Mangaluru, Dec 14: The most anxiously awaited Annual Day celebration of St Aloysius College Higher Primary School was held on Thursday, December 13 at the school premises. It was woven around the theme ‘Save Mother Earth’. Archibald Menezes, executive director, Jaysons Agritech Pvt Ltd, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Fr Dionysius Vaz, the rector of St Aloysius Institutions, presided over the function. Correspondent Fr Gerald Furtado, headmistress Philomena Lewis and the PTA vice-president Rekha Fernandes were present.
The programme commenced with the prayer song and was followed by a heat-warming welcome dance. Jositta Noronha introduced the chief guest to the audience. Addressing the gathering, the chief guest praised the school for raising the educational standard in the city. He congratulated the management, staff and students for their meticulous work. He requested the parents and the teachers to see that the childhood joys of children are not taken away. He also said that we are living in the world of performances. Society has given guidelines to us. A child needs to present himself well in the society. He stated that he felt highly honoured and elated to witness the Annual Day.
In his presidential address, Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ said, “Our primary school is a heaven on earth where the budding talents of children blossom.” He said that asking questions is forever learning. He requested the teachers and parents to help children ask questions and answer them in their own way. He further said that we need to monitor how our children are in their peer and friendship skills and also help them to improve socio- emotional and spiritual skills. He cited examples of how children from our institutions grow in compassion. He thanked the former correspondent Fr Eric Mathias and welcomed the new correspondent Fr Gerald Furtado.
The annual day prize distribution function was a moment of pride and honour for all winners and achievers of the school. The students who had brought laurels to school in various competitions as well as co-curricular areas were felicitated. The Headmistress then presented the Annual report of the school through power point that had the achievements of the school in academics, sports and co-curricular activities. The students then presented mesmerizing cultural events such as dances, plays, songs etc. The two-hour long cultural programme held the audience in awe and left them enlightened as the show culminated. The budding music talents of the school the Orchestra played and rendered beautiful numbers throughout the programme.
Alan Menezes, the school pupil leader extended a warm welcome to all the dignitaries and the audience present, while Rishel Fernandes the ASPL rendered the vote of thanks. The entire programme was well organised and the students gave a stupendous performance. They also ably anchored the evening’s programme which took off with school anthem.
