Mumbai, Dec 10: The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex on Wednesday surged about 500 points at midsession on aggressive buying by funds in heavy-weight stocks led by realty, metals and refinery sectors.
The 30-share index, which commenced the day higher, gained further ground to record a gain of 434.47 points at 9,597.09 at 1450 hrs on the back of a smart rise in Reliance Industries, DLF Ltd, Infosys and Tata Steel.
The wide-based National Stock Exchange Nifty shot up by about 133 points at 2,917.55 at the same time.
Marketmen said the buying interest picked up following the government measures to boost the economy and a cut in interest rate by the Reserve Bank of India last week.
They said the market-heaviest Reliance Industries and Infosys, recording sharp gains, were the major supporters to the market sentiment.
