Bangalore, Dec 11: Primary and secondary education minister Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri said here on Wednesday December 10, that the government will not dither on the issue of derecognizing those schools whose buses carry students in excess of their specified capacities. "The government has taken the issue of the death of a girl student of a private school in Channarayapatna in Hassan district due to suffocation while travelling in a school vehicle seriously," he announced.

"Steps are being taken to ensure that the unfortunate incidents like the above do not recur. Criminal case has been booked against the concerned in the above incident. If necessary, the government will cancel the recognition accorded to the said school," he added.

In addition to issuing notices to the concerned educational institution, the government, in association with the transport and police departments, will henceforth ensure that the vehicles carrying school children strictly follow the specified norms. If such incidents happen again, the head master of the school concerned and also the block education officer will be held responsible, he warned.
