Mangalore: ‘Yakshotsava’ Encourages College Students to Display Talent

Mangalore, Dec 14: ‘Yakshotsava-2008’, an inter-college Yakshagana competition (Tenkutittu), will be held at the Sri Dharmastala Manjunateshwara (SDM) auditorium on Monday December 15 and Tuesday December 16.

Kumble Sundar Rao, Yakshagana Academy, will inaugurate the programme on Monday at 9.30 am.

Students of Canara College will perform ‘Nirishwara Yaga’ at 10 am, and ‘Shanmuka Vijaya’ by Bhuvanendra College, Karkala, will follow at 11.45 am. ‘Shashiprabha Parinaya’ by SDM, Ujire is at 1.45 pm, and ‘Narakasura Moksha’ by SVS College, Bantwal, will be at 3.30 pm. ‘Sudhanvarjuna’ by Govinda Das College, Suratkal, will be staged at 5.15 pm and ‘Veeratarani Sena’ by Gokarnateshwara College will be presented at 7 pm on Monday December 15.

On Tuesday, ‘Moksha Mohara’ will be performed by students of Mangalore University at 9 am, followed by ‘Shveta Kumara Charitre’ by Nehru Memorial College, Sullia, at 10.45 am, and ‘Bhouma Moksha’ by Vivekanand College, Puttur, at 1 pm. ‘Sudhanvarjuna’ will be staged by Alvas College, Moodbidri, at 2.45 pm, and ‘Krishna Shrikrishna’ by Besant Evening College at 4.30 pm. From 6 pm to 7 pm, students of SDM Law College will perform.

Vitobha Nagvekar, managing director, Komals Mass Organization, will preside over the closing ceremony. Yakshagana artistes Kanchan Sanjeev Rai, K G Manjunath Bhat, and Edanadu Diwan Shiv Shankar Bhat, will be present on the occasion.
