Puttur: Mother Kills Two Children, Commits Suicide

Puttur, Dec 15: Sharada (35), wife of Tania Naik from Nettanige Mudnoor village near here, killed her two children, Anusha (15) and Hariprasad (6) by feeding them pesticides being used in rubber plantations, and committed suicide in the same manner, on the evening of Sunday December 14.

The policemen said that family problems drove the woman to take this extreme step. A case has been registered at Puttur rural police station in this regard. Tania Naik, who became unconscious upon finding his family decimated, was admitted to a private hospital in Puttur for treatment. He is yet to regain consciousness.

    I feel these things happen when families get split. Gone are those days when people used to stay in joint families, and comfort each other during hard times,and avoid happening such sad things.

    No words can console the sadness we feel hearing such sad and tragic events. It is mentioned family problems drove the woman to take this extreme step.Though nothing would bring the dead back to life it would have been good if little additional info like whether it was poverty or personal family issues that lead to this extreem step, so that it would help social service organisations to help others in similar conditions.

    Earlier neighbors used to help each other as there was no fear stigma attached. Today to help other religious or community is like a crime branded by fanatic religious group. How many family like Sharada suffering without hope and encouragement. These poor families are facing one side financial problem and other side exploitation by the landlords either sexually or physically. Where are the leaders who propagate eradicating poverty during this type of crisis. Sad but true in every situations politicians only manipulate the situations in their favour.
