Kundapur, Dec 22: In a tragic accident, a bridegroom who was riding a bike from Thekkatte to Saligrama temple, came under the wheels of a lorry near Kota Bellada Ganapathi temple and died on Saturday, December 22.

The deceased youth is identified as Varun (33), son of K G Raju.

When Varun was heading to the temple, a road roller was proceeding ahead of him. When he was overtaking it, the road roller touched the bike. Varun fell on the road losing control. Meanwhile a huge 12-wheel lorry approaching from the opposite side ran over him, killing him on the spot.

Varun’s wedding was scheduled to take place at Saligrama Kalyana Mantapa with a girl from Kalavara on December 30. It is said that he was preparing for marriage.

Varun was employed abroad and had planned to arrive in India on December 26. As his leave was approved early, he arrived for preparing for the marriage a few days before schedule. He had borrowed the bike from his friend for the marriage arrangements.

Varun has left behind his father, mother and a sister.

Very sad and tragic event. RIP Varun.

Every time we hear stories like these our hearts go out to the family, friends and loved ones, but what are we doing as a community and what is the government doing to protect lives. Regretfully very little,
