No snowfall in Kashmir on Christmas


Srinagar, Dec 25 (IANS): Christmas celebrations in Kashmir are likely to miss the traditional snowfall this year as an unabated cold wave continues on Tuesday with the Met denying any possibility of rain or snow till New Year.

There was no relief from the severe cold that has been lashing the valley for a fortnight with minimum temperatures reaching minus 5.5 in Srinagar minus 7.7 in Pahalgam and minus 7.6 in Gulmarg.

Drass in Kargil was the coldest place in Jammu and Kashmir at minus 19.5 degrees Celsius. The town remained literally frozen as even the maximum temperatures in the town remained below freezing point.

Leh recorded minus 10 and Kargil minus 14.2 as the minimum temperature today.

Jammu was at 4.1, Katra 5, Batote minus 2, Bannihal minus 3.3 and Bhaderwah was at minus 2.2 degrees Celsius.
