12 injured after Sunday prayer attacked in Maharashtra village

Kolhapur, Dec 25 (PTI): At least 12 people were injured when they were attacked by a group of people during a prayer meet in Maharashtra's Kolhapur district, police said on Tuesday.

Around 20 to 25 people were attending the Sunday Mass at the residence of Bhimsen Chavan in Kowad village, located on the Karnataka border, when the incident happened around noon, a police official said.

According to police, Chavan regularly conducts the Sunday prayer at his residence. A group of 10 to 15 masked men armed with swords, iron rods and glass bottles reached his residence on motorcycles, he said. They attacked the congregation and threw stones on those attending the prayer.

The masked men tried to barge into the house. But some women, who were part of the prayer meet, forced the attackers to back off by throwing chilly powder on them, the official said.

Twelve people were injured in the attack and they were admitted to a hospital, he said. Senior police officials were keeping a close watch in the area where the situation was now under control, he said.

The exact reason behind the attack was not yet known, but prima facie it seems the intention was to disturb the prayer, the official said.

Kolhapur Superintendent of Police Abhinav Deshmukh visited the spot and was supervising the investigation. The attackers, it seems, had come from Belagavi (in Karnataka).

Police were recording the statements of people who had seen the attackers, he said. The CCTV footage of the area was also being scanned, he said, and expressed hope that the attackers would be nabbed
soon.

Police had registered a case of rioting and attempt to murder against unidentified persons, the official added.

    vinayak prabhu,

What you say cannot be done i will explain in a very simple terms,

We have a fundamental right to practice a religion we choose and also a right to propagate the religion. Now there is nothing called forceful conversion. if you believe it then you are a fool. I will even explain to you why you are a fool to believe it. Can anyone me make you believe what you don't want to believe? If you think you can be made to believe then you don't have a brain.

I will say that anybody who brings up forcefull conversion argument is a fool. disagree with my statement, then debate me.

vinayak....when you get enlightenment, you will go for conversion ..from darkness to light. The days are gone for forced conversion. Educated people change the religion once they convinced about the truth. Check before commenting. So many westerners are embracing Hinduism/Islam, is it forced conversion?

I do not understand how forced conversion happens. Conversion is something that happens within, not physical appearance. One can remain Hindu even after changing his total appearance, but within he/she continue to believe the principals of Hinduism.
Secondly even if it happens, who the hell are these goons to take law into their hand. The time has come to teach these people a lesson , tit for tat.. that's the only language these people understand.

From Kandhamal in Odhisa to Karavali in Karnataka the attacks on Christians another grand plan after the lynching of Muslims in the name of Gau Mata.
During the four-year government (2014-2018) of Hindu nationalist party "Bharatiya Janata Party" (BJP), of Premier Narendra Modi, who led the government of the "National Development Alliance" (NDA), the Christian community in India faced unprecedented attacks, carried out by Hindu nationalist groups: this is what an independent study says.
The Evangelical Fellowship of India, which monitors cases of violence, documented at least 351 cases of violence in 2017. And many times violence is not reported because the victim is terrorized or the police refuse to file a report. According to the data analysis of 2017, Tamil Nadu is the most hostile state, with the highest number of violence against Christians, with 52 cases, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 50, Chhattisgarh with 43, Madhya Pradesh with 36, Maharashtra with 38. Excluding Tamil Nadu, the other states are governed by the BJP directly or in a coalition.
'Pehle Kasai, phir Isai (butchers/Muslims first, then Christians)' is #BJP and NarendraModi fascist ideology. No minority or secularist safe.
But from the United States and 22 Christian countries, Overseas friends of BJP is already started the campaign for 2019 Lok Sabha elections to elect Modi again. While systematic prosecution of minority continues.
