Punjab Minister warns officials on school results

Chandigarh, Dec 26 (IANS): Punjab Education Minister O.P. Soni on Wednesday warned that officers and principals will be held fully accountable for the poor performance of students in examinations.

Presiding over a meeting with the District Education Officers (DEOs), Soni said that DEOs should regularly check schools and punctuality among the teachers and other staff to ensure better results.

He further said that the examination centre should be set up keeping in mind that students do not have to travel more than three kilometer from their home.

Making it clear that the responsibility of poor results of the government schools will be on DEOs and principals, Soni asked them to ensure remedial measures before the start of examinations of various classes.

On the issue of vacant posts of teachers and other employees in various schools, Soni directed that these posts will be filled with due promotions and rationalisation. He also said that the list of those schools, whose buildings are unsafe and in dilapidated condition, should be sent immediately and all such buildings will be rebuilt in one year.
