Nehru's intervention in Patel's functioning behind J&K's present situation: Minister

New Delhi, Dec 28 (IANS): Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Friday blamed former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru for the crisis in Jammu and Kashmir, saying if he had not interfered in the functioning of Sardar Patel (then Home Minister), the situation would have been different in the state.

Intervening during a debate in the Lok Sabha on a presidential proclamation imposing President's Rule in Jammu and Kashmir, Singh launched a veiled attack on Congress calling it a "rasoighar ki party (party of kitchen)".

Singh said the reason to implement President's rule in the state was that no party came forward to stake its claim to form government there.

Explaining the political situation in the state that led to the imposition of President's Rule, he said that the BJP formed a coalition with People's Democratic Party (PDP) amid a fractured mandate.

"It was the people's mandate. Had we not formed the government, the people would had blamed us that we fled and did not form the government," he said.

As Singh was speaking, Congress Mallikarjun Kharge suggested the minister that the BJP should learn from the history what Nehru did.

Singh aggressively countered it.

"The current situation in Kashmir is an outcome of a series of blunders of successive Congress governments in the state starting with the Nehruvian blunder," he said.

"If Nehru had not intervened in the functioning of Patel, the situation in Jammu and Kashmir would have been different today," Singh said.

Referring to the Central government's view towards Jammu and Kashmir and attacking the Congress, Singh said: "We are ready for elections. We are not a party of kitchen where things are decided by mother and son while eating their food.

"Elections in Jammu and Kashmir were opposed by those who ruined the state in over 50 years," he said.

He said BJP's history was linked with the state, and that its leader Shayama Prasad Mukherjee's sacrifice was the biggest example of that.

BJP politicians have no business governing India.. They should be committed to a lunatic asylum where they can engage in historical revisionism, denounce Nehru and Congress, taunt Muslims and write historical fantasies. BJP should leave governance to people who know the meaning of leadership.

The BJP's minister and Prime minister are like broken records of the olden days stuck in same track repeating only Gandhi, Nehru. Why Gandhi and Nehru should answer for Jammu and Kashmir's complete mess and ruining the tourism industry with shotgun bullets blinding civilians?
Never in the history of India at the time of Nehru who is Kashmiri Pandit and Brahmin, the whole community came out in support of rape accused of 8-year nomad girl of Barawala community which BJP leaders also presented.
Nehru's role in '47 Kashmir war is twisted by many accounts, he deserves praise, not hate:
India's borders would be drastically different if Nehru was not at the helm of Indian representation for the Independence Act of '47. He made many strategic changes to the map of India which was being drawn up by Radcliffe because of his cordial relationship with Mountbatten. For example, the town of Gurdaspur was included in India though it had a Muslim majority population because of Nehru.
If not for this town, logistics to supply weapons to Kashmir War would be non-existent. See the many highways passing through? We would have lost the '48 war flat out if not for Nehru. The reason why Nehru went to UN was simple. The Kingdom of Kathiawar had a Muslim ruler for a Hindu majority region. They voted via plebiscite to join India and the area was integrated into Bombay state. Pakistan still lays a claim to the area, but it has no legal standing. Nehru wanted to repeat that in Kashmir as soon as possible and finish the deal. Actually, if things had gone as per his plan, the Kashmir issue would have been solved a long time ago.
There is another popular notion that Nehru was "soft" because of the association with Gandhi and Fabian society. This is another myth. Why would such a "soft" guy order the Kashmir offensive or authorize Sardar to annex Hyderabad?
If today's Kashmir is failed Ram Madhav should be blamed for his ideological approach of Hitlers Nazi Germany in Kashmir.

    Nacho Na Ayae Angan Theda.
BJP could not even win elections in J&K and finally they allied with PDP to form the govt but BJP pulled out of alliance because of its inability to control and govern the state. If policies of Patel in J&K were working fine it was by the approval of central govt of that time taking into account sensitivity of that state. You and your govt have already been told to step down if you can not rule. It's not faking all the way when it comes to rule.
