No assessment of demonetisation, GST impact on workers: Centre informs Parliament

New Delhi, Dec 31 (IANS): The Narendra Modi government on Monday informed the Lok Sabha that it has not assessed the impact of demonetisation and the GST on workers engaged in the organised and unorganised sectors, including agricultural and contractual labourers, in the country.

In response to a question by Hyderabad MP and AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, Minister of State for Labour and Employment Santosh Kumar Gangwar informed the Lok Sabha that no such assessment has been made.

  

"However, the Labour Bureau, Ministry of Labour & Employment, has been conducting quarterly quick employment surveys in eight sectors, namely manufacturing, construction, trade, transport, accommodation and restaurant, IT/BPO, education and health," Gangwar said in his reply. 

The Centre on December 14 had also informed the Lok Sabha that it has done no assessment or study on the impact of demonetisation on the economy.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 8, 2016 had announced demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes.

The Reserve Bank of India in its annual report later had said that 99.3 per cent of the total banned notes had returned to the banking system.

    “Mere pyare deshvasiyon, give me 50 days of pain to deliver the India of your dreams,” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 8, “otherwise punish me at the place of your choice” - and most of India was sold to the utopian idea.
    The nation went hysteric at the prospect of being able to sacrifice in what they believed was a chance to take part in a "freedom struggle" against the greedy rich.

    People lined up outside ATMs and banks, for hours, days; often returning empty handed when machines ran out of cash; the poor hopeful that black money hoarders were going bankrupt, even as corrupt bankers laundered money.

    It was, therefore, with great excitement and confidence that the working class and the poor waited for Modi to share details of the black money banks had collected in 50 days. They were sure he was going to lay bare a balance-sheet, including details such as money spent on printing new notes, and how much more time would be required before the withdrawn equivalent currency would be back in the system. People expected life would soon return to normal.

    They also expected the PM to apologise for the bad calculation, for dragging them into utter misery to withdraw and use their own hard earned money. Instead, they got a merry-go-round gobbledygook of “sound and fury” that signified nothing.

    Modi asked India for 50 days for the system to breathe easy again after demonetization. Two years on, we must ask: What exactly did his decision achieve?

    Now it is punishment time for Mr. Modi, 50 days of demonetization are over. The PM did not keep any of his promises. We must keep the one he made for us.

    If no assessment on Demonetisation, GST then how Modi govt and CSC gave out a big number on GDP and forecasted future growth beyond imagination????. Even IMF and ADB has said the same. So, what is the basis of all this?????....Finally all these numbers and statistics are FAKE, isn't it BJP??????. You fooled people now you are trapped in your own fake words.
    BTW, is there any connection to Italian lady, Gandhi family, Nehru family and dynasty in this?????...
