Non-subsidised LPG rate cut by Rs 120.50/cylinder, subsidised by Rs 5.91

New Delhi, Dec 31 (IANS): Passing on a new year gift of reduction in global gas prices to consumers, state-run Indian Oil Corp (IOC) on Monday announced a major cut of Rs 120.50 in the rates of non-subsidised LPG cylinders.

In a statement here, IOC also said the subsidised quota of 12 cooking gas cylinders per annum will also cost less by Rs 5.91 per cylinder, effective from January 1.

Thus, a 14.2-kg subsidised LPG cylinder will cost Rs 494.99 in Delhi from midnight, as against Rs 500.90.

The non-subsidised LPG will now cost Rs 689 per cylinder, in place of the current Rs 809.50.

"The price of Non-Subsidised LPG at Delhi will decrease by Rs 120.50 per cylinder w.e.f. 1st January 2019 due to fall in price of LPG in international market and strengthening of US dollar-rupee exchange rate," IOC said.

Actual prices following the rate cut will vary across centres owing to local taxes.

    During Modi’s rule, the price of oil imported by India fell by 32% yet central taxes were hiked by 129%.
    For three years straight after the Modi government took over power in May 2014, the price of crude oil in the Indian basket fell from $109.05 per barrel in June 2014 to $46.56 per barrel in June 2017. After that, it has risen to end up at $73.83 per barrel in June 2018. This is according to official data put out by the Petroleum Planning & Analysis Cell (PPAC) under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. So, in four years, the price has actually dipped by about 32% since the Modi government took over.

    About 46% of what the common consumer pays for petrol is made up of taxes charged by both, the Central as well as the state governments.

    As shown in the charts, in 2014-15, the Modi government was making some Rs.1,22,200 crore out of taxes that it levied on oil. By 2017-18, this has zoomed up to Rs.2,80,000 crore! That is an increase of a staggering 129%. According to some estimates, the Central government has collected over Rs.11 lakh crore worth of taxes in this period riding on this bonanza.

    The cost of non-subsidised domestic LPG is lingering around the ₹1,000 mark in most regions of Karnataka, and in Bidar a cylinder is being sold at ₹1,015

    Are you considering the selling price alone, or are you also keeping in mind the global oil price ?

    How could UPA give petrol to half the price than what Modi gave, when the wold traded oil for more than 150 US$. ? Siculars ? You the Modi slaves should open your eyes and look around than fooling.
