Triple talaq bill 'barbaric', says AIMPLB women wing

Hyderabad, Jan 2 (IANS): Terming triple talaq bill "inhuman, anti-women and barbaric", women's wing of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) on Tuesday appealed to Rajya Sabha members to press for referring it to a select committee for scrutiny.

Asma Zohra, the chief organiser of the women's wing of AIMPLB, told reporters here that if passed, the triple talaq legislation will damage the family and social fabric of the community.

The bill, passed in the Lok Sabha last week, could not be taken up in Rajya Sabha on Monday as opposition insisted that it be referred to a select committee. It is likely to be taken up on Wednesday again.

"There was no need for this bill after Supreme Court judgment invalidating triple talaq. It is brought with political and communal motives to divide the society," she said.

She claimed that Muslims across India oppose and condemn the bill brought in the Rajya Sabha for a second time.

The women's wing of AIMPLB believes that if passed the legislation will break marriages rather than empowering women. It termed the bill a direct blow to family system and the institution of marriage.

She said the AIMPLB has time and again stated that triple talaq in one sitting is not the standard procedure of divorce and those practicing this shall face social boycott.

"Muslim women will not get anything from this bill. Instead, they will be left abandoned and deserted. Her condition will become more miserable," it said.

"It is ironic that there is freedom in this country for men and women to have premarital, extramarital and even multiple relationships. Decriminalisation of Section 377 is being cited as an example of freedom in personal and civil matters, then why a Muslim husband is penalised for divorce," asked Asma Zohra.

I fully agree with cmments from brother Francies. He right said that it should be decided by Muslim women what is good and bad for them. Govt should not force any law against will of people. We want to know why this Govt is appeasing 0.001 percent of muslim women while rejecting the call by 99.999 percent who don't want any change or interference by any one in their personal law. Why this Govt is so interested to appease these 0.001 percent of Muslim women. Is there something personal dealing. Why the Govt is not bothered about hundreds of thousand of Hindu sisters who are deserted by their husbands and even our great leader PM has deserted his wife. He is not bothered abut his own wife and showing crocodile tears ont he fate of Muslim women. This is nothing but deceiving Muslims. Why this Govt is not bothered about giving justice of thousands of muslim women whose husbands and children were killed in riots. Why this Govt is in so hurry to pass the bill without referring to any standing committee or referring to muslim scholars. This Govt is referring to name sake muslims like akbar, shanawaz and Mukhtar who claim to be the sole representatives of muslims and there is no scholars in india better than them. People like these are family members of Mir jafar and Mir Qasim and every one knows who are these people. Let there be census among muslim women on the issue.

As Mrs. Asma Zohra said,; I firmly believe that the bill is brought with political and communal motives to divide the society,"

This can be substantiated by the survey conducted in 2011, Muslim families maintain their relationship until the end of their life, with a average percentage of 87%, which is the highest in the country.

Further, the family bonding in Muslim community is demonstrated by the fact that you won't find any "Vidhva Ashram" in Muslim community. In fact, there is no practice of using the term "widow" for the wife who has lost husband.

The triple talaq Bill is not going to give any benefit to anyone. Either wife, or husband. Further, it would even negate the chance of reconciliation between the couple.
Why Srimanji's concern is limited to the Muslim community only? What laws he is going to propose to the welfare of 20 lakh abandoned widows who are not from Muslim community? Why minority appeasement for Political gains?

Sriman 56inch has wasted his 56 months in doing unnecessary things.

There should be a consensus, among muslim womans ,weather the triple talq bill is harmful to the muslim womens or good then they have to decide to ban triple talq or not.Other than no political party should be involved in this matter.
