Parliament approves proclamation of Presidents's rule in J&K

New Delhi, Jan 3 (IANS): The Parliament on Thursday approved the proclamation of President's rule in Jammu and Kashmir, with the Rajya Sabha giving its nod.

After a debate, which witnessed heated arguments between the opposition and the treasury benches, the upper House approved the proclamation after Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh's reply.

Singh said that President's rule in the state was recommended as no other option was left, since no party had staked claim to form an alternative government.

He also said if the Election Commission recommends Assembly elections in the state, the Central government has no objections.

Earlier on December 28, the Lok Sabha had approved the proclamation of President's rule in the state.
