Will invite Rahul Gandhi to Prayagraj Kumbh, says UP Deputy CM

Gandhinagar, Jan 3 (IANS): Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma on Thursday said that on behalf of the state government, he will invite Congress President Rahul Gandhi to visit Prayagraj during Kumbh Mela.

After naming the old city of Allahabad as Prayagraj, the Uttar Pradesh government is organising Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj from January 15. The government wants it to be a big success and for that, the deputy chief ministers are sent across the country for the event's publicity.

Sharma invited the Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani for the event on Thursday. "We want everyone to visit Prayagraj for the Kumbh Mela this year and that's why we are extending this invite to all in the government and everybody," said Sharma.

When asked if the invite will be extended to Congress chief Rahul Gandhi too, he said, "Yes, definitely. I would like to make an announcement. Rahul Gandhi's grandfather Feroz Gandhi's tomb is in Prayagraj, which Rahul has never visited. I urge Rahul Gandhi to visit Prayagraj for the Kumbh Mela and also perform puja at his grandfather's tomb. Rahul Gandhi is of the Dattatreya gotra, so I think he should visit the Kumbh Mela," said Sharma.

The UP government is not only endorsing the event but has also formed the Prayagraj Mela Authority for Kumbh Mela's smooth functioning. A new logo has also been designed for the Mela.

Today's rulers like CM Yogi were trying to show that they are working by just changing the name of Allahabad.
The Yogi's UP has drawn up an estimate of more than Rs 4,200 crore for the preparations around this year’s Kumbh Mela in Allahabad. A shelf of projects worth Rs 4,236 crore has been readied for Kumbh. The UP government has already allotted Rs 2,000 crore for the same and the UP chief secretary has written to the central government asking for a grant of Rs 2,200 crore.
The PM Modi's government has withdrawn the subsidy to Hajj pilgrims in accordance to a 2012 Supreme Court. However, all these schemes, in a way, contravene with Article 27 of the Constitution that states: "Freedom as to payment of taxes for promotion of any particular religion No person shall be compelled to pay any taxes, the proceeds of which are specifically appropriated in payment of expenses for the promotion or maintenance of any particular religion or religious denomination."
Mahatma Gandhi visited Haridwar in 1915—the year the Kumbh Mela was held. Gandhiji was fond of roaming around and he noticed a swarm of sadhus converging on Haridwar for the Kumbh mela. Then he had an appalling sight of a cow with five feet. He was astonished and soon disillusioned. The poor cow with five feet was a sacrifice to the greed of wicked people. The fifth foot was the foot a live calf that had been grafted upon the shoulder of the cow. This double cruelty was used to fleece ignorant and credulous people.
The Yogi Pradesh which doesn't have money to clear the bills to suppliers that resulted in deaths of more than 30,000 patients in his own constituency is spending on Kumbh Mela were organizers don't even have 'Toilets' forcing the devotees to relive in banks of Holy Ganges.
