Himachal seeks India Reserve Battalion for women

New Delhi, Jan 4 (IANS): Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Friday called on Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh here and requested him to sanction one more India Reserve Battalion (IRB) for women.

Thakur said the state is giving priority to women empowerment and their safety. Various measures have been taken that include setting up all-women police stations in districts.

He apprised the Union Minister that there are seven IRBs in the state, out of which one is all-women battalion.

"If another battalion is sanctioned to the state, it would go a long way in strengthening the efforts being made to empower women," an official statement quoting the Chief Minster said.

Thakur also sought funds on account of heavy losses suffered during the monsoon last year. He said an inter-ministerial team visited the state to assess the losses and requested to expedite funds' availability.
