Sabarimala tantri given 15 days to explain why 'purification' ritual

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 4 (IANS): The Travancore Devasom Board (TDB) -- custodians of the Sabarimala temple -- on Friday decided to seek an explanation from Kantararu Rajeeveru, the temple tantri, as to why they conducted a "purification ritual" on Wednesday, said a TDB official.

Speaking to the media soon after a TDB meeting, its president A. Padmakumar said that the tantri would be given 15 days' time to give his explanation.

"The purification ritual is against the directive of the Supreme Court and hence we have asked him to explain. Further action will follow after going through his explanation," said Padmakumar -- a former CPI-M legislator, handpicked by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan as the TDB president.

The temple was shut for an hour around 10.30 a.m on Wednesday for "purification rituals" after Vijayan that day confirmed that Bindu and Kanaka Durga had "darshan" at 3.30 a.m.

Women in the 10-50 age group had traditionally been banned from entering the temple, until the recent Supreme Court verdict. Earlier, the two women had been stopped from entering the hill shrine by male pilgrims on December 24 as well.

Vijayan on Thursday reiterated that the state government had only abided by the Supreme Court directive to allow women of all age groups to pray at the Sabarimala temple and breathed fire on tantri, saying it was a blatant violation of the Supreme Court order.

He further said that he (tantri) has every right as a person to differ with the Supreme Court order.

"However, if he is not able to digest the verdict, he could well have quit his post, but he cannot defy the law of the land," he said and added that the TDB should seriously look into what happened.

In anticipation of the TDB serving them a notice, the tantri family on Wednesday itself said they would definitely reply to the letter, if required.

Expressing support for Vijayan was his cabinet colleague and state Agriculture Minister V.S. Sunilkumar, who on Friday asked as to what right the tantri has to do such an act.

"Someone, who can't abide by the Supreme Court directive, has no right to continue in that post and he has to go," said Sunilkumar.

Devaswom Board has only administrative control over temples. Thanthri is a heriditary position assigned perpetually to Thazhamon family and neither TDB nor Marxist Government has any role to dictate in this regard. They do not have powers to remove him also. There are a series of judgment from Supreme Court which cannot be and could not be implemented due to inherent reasons. The latest among them is the church dispute at Kothamangalam where in marxist government has formed a ministry level negotiating committee to strike an agreement between the warring factions before implementing the judgment. Why such a previlage eludes the majority community is a million dollar question. Marxists are atheists but the most powerful man in the establishment will be appointed as Head of Travancore Devaswom Board and this ardent communist will take oath in the name of God to assume power, ultimately to manage and divert money belonging to believers...! When the same Supreme Court banned road side meetings and flag posts, the same communists openly defied the judgment and personally criticized the judges and few communists faced contempt of court proceedings. Here Marxist Government is implementing their ideology hiding behind a supreme court order. Communists per say are dangerous creatures who do not respect due space for others. They are masters in double speak, believe in eliminating their opponents physically and are proponents of cold blood murders....! A beautiful ideology perished in the hands of Politicians in Indian context....!

I do not understand how royal family lost control over temple? How management board was created by government? Was it forcefully taken over or agreed power transfer? Was it challenged in the court?

Why then, the SC has authority in Tripple Talaq ?

Why was BJP govt in the center so much interested in enacting a bill in this pertinence ?

Nevertheless, now that the SC has advised to allow women to worship inside the shrine, who is above the court ? Is the tantri ?

If Modi is so concerned about Muslim women and want to bring in Triple Talaaq then why Modi is not giving Haj pilgrimage subsidy to them???.Why no education subsidy???? Why no govt jobs quota for Muslim women???? Modi just wants to create divisions in a family and create chaos in Muslim lives as he is creating disturbance everywhere.
