Bantwal: Ayyappa devotee drowns in Netravati river and dies

Bantwal, Jan 5: In a tragic incident, an Ayyappa devotee who had gone to Netravati River near Thumbe dam for bath on Saturday January 5 got drowned and died.

The deceased was Madange, Kallige village resident Hariprasad(23), son of Raja. He was an ardent devotee of Swamy Ayyappa.

He had gone on four pilgrimages to Sabarimala in the past and was preparing for fifth pilgrimage with Girish Guruswamy and friends on January 6. He used to stay wearing mala at Devandabettu Laxmi Vishnu murthy temple, Kallige village, Bantwal.

He was having bath together with five other Ayyapa devotees wearing malas below Thumbe dam as usual when he drowned and died.

Bantwal rural SI Prasanna and staff Jayaram visited the spot and took up investigations. A case in this connection is registered in Bantwal rural police station. Investigations are being conducted.
