New Delhi, Jan 6: Six top executives of Zee News channel have written a letter to Congress president Rahul Gandhi clarifying that it was not supporting a particular political party.
Asking Rahul Gandhi to end the channel's boycott, top executives of the group including Sudhir Chaudhary clarified in a letter and said, “We are nobody’s mouthpiece and we refuse to be called so. We also believe in the principles of democratic protests, which is why we are writing to you. This is to politely yet firmly register our protest your party and its spokespersons for routinely indulging in baseless commentaries in self defense.”
Urging Congress to send their spokespersons on the channel, they said, “We speak for no one but this nation. We believe nationalism is a virtue and not a political tag, which unfortunately your party has failed to realize. Your party’s interests would be better served if you advise your party spokespersons to fortify their arguments on TV debates with facts rather than questioning the credibility of the journalists or the channel.”
In the letter they also stated that they encouraged diverse opinions on the platform and would be happy to host Congress spokespersons in the future. In the letter the channel executives also wished good luck for the upcoming electoral challenges.
In the letter Zee News also said that it had written to Rahul Gandhi in October 2018 following controversy over Pakistan Zindabad slogans raised during a rally addressed by Navjot Singh Sidhu. According to reports, Rahul Gandhi has not replied to the letter yet.
It may be recalled that Zee News owner and BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP, Subhash Chandra had clarified on live TV in 2016 that his channel was not pro-BJP.
