Mangaluru, Jan 7: The call for 'Bharat Bandh' given by various labour organizations in pursuance of various demands on January 8 and 9 is likely to have adverse affect in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts too.

Auto Drivers Union of Dakshina Kannada district has supported the call. Movement of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation buses is likely to be affected. Organization of Unorganized Labourers has supported the bandh call as a result of which, movement of private buses may be affected. Owners of city buses and other private buses will take a decision on the issue today. They are convening a meeting to discuss the matter on Monday.

Dakshina Kannada Street Vendors Association has expressed solidarity with the unions and will participate in the strike. General secretary of the association, Harish Poojary, said that the association demands proper implementation of The Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act 2014. He also complained that the central government led by Modi has not drafted any new plans for the benefit of street vendors.

Udupi District Pensioners Association supports this general strike. The association said that it demands minimum monthly pension of Rs 6,000 along with applicable dearness allowance. As association of bank employees are supporting the bandh call, bank operations are likely to be thrown out of gear.

District Auto Rickshaw Drivers Association, CPM, Communist Party of India etc have supported the strike. Motor Transport and Engineering Workers Union, Dakshina Kannada district DYFI, Karnataka Rajya Raita Sangha (Hasiru Sene), Joint Committee of Trade Unions, All India Janavadi Women's Organization, and Karnataka State Pensioners Union, All India Beedi Federation (CITU) are among the organizations that are supporting the call.
