Rahul says Sitharaman lying on HAL contracts, challenges Modi for debate on Rafale

New Delhi, Jan 7 (IANS): Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday accused Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman of "lying" about the contracts given to HAL and challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a debate on the Rafale deal.

Describing Sitharaman as a "spokesperson of Narendra Modi", he said only contracts worth Rs 26,570 crore have been given to the public sector Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd and not Rs 1 lakh crore "as stated" by the Minister while replying to a debate in the Lok Sabha last week on the deal to purchase fighter jets from France.

"She spoke a clear lie in Parliament. Contracts of Rs 26,570 crore have been given to HAL. Remarks that more contracts of Rs 73,000 crore have been given is a total sham," Gandhi told reporters in Parliament House complex.

He said the Modi government had given Dassault Aviation Rs 20,000 crore though they had not delivered a single Rafale aircraft but HAL, which had delivered on its orders including helicopters, was awaiting payment of Rs 15,700 crore. He accused the government of trying to wreck HAL.

Gandhi also accused Modi of doing "bypass surgery" on the Rafale deal and said Sitharaman should give a "yes" or "no" answer to his question.

"I am asking Prime Minister and Defence Minister: Did officials of Air Force, Defence Ministry say that Narendra Modi had interfered in the deal," he said.

The Congress chief said when he raised the question in Parliament, Sitharaman started talking about her middle class background which was "also not true".

He accused Modi of being scared of facing Parliament.

"The chowkidar of the country is scared to face Parliament. He cannot stand in a Rafale debate. Give me 15 minutes with Narendra Modi, the whole country will know (the truth)," he said.

So confident is Rahul Gandhi that he has invited Narendra Modi for a debate on the matter. The latter seems to be on the back foot and he is clearly shying away from talking about the subject. The country wants to know the truth. After all, it is not Modi's money. The money belongs to the people of this country and nobody has the right to play around with the nation's money. Let the truth come out, by all means let there be a debate or if Modi feels he cannot stand up to Rahul, let a JPS enquiry be held. All of us want to know who is lying. If Modi has nothing to hide. why is he running away from the debate or the enquiry? What is he afraid of? If he has done nothing wrong, let him hold his head high and reply. Unfortunately, his body language does not suggest this.

Pai Mam, Nobody is bigger than the Supreme court, but the Supreme court has not given any clean chit to the government. It has only said that it is not the competent authority to decide on the pricing of the aircraft. Therefore any one will understand that a legislative organ of the government like a JPC is the most competent authority to decide if any wrong doing exists in the deal. Why is the government shying away from a JPC if there is nothing to hide?
Most importantly the Supreme court judgement was based on a false affidavit submitted by the government. Now that the petitioners have filed a review petition terming the judgement flawed and based upon wrong facts submitted to the court, wait and see what happens.

If you check the history of JPC, you will see why even the previous govt's didn't go for any JPC probes. One example is the IPL scam
We know the reason why Pidi is demanding for JPC. He can continue with that. Once CONgress is defeated this year, this will be over.
He was smiling after 2014 defeat, and he may do that again

Fakugiri virus is slow but steadily spreading to other members of Modi team and it is going to be a dangerous trend in development and economic prosperity of the country. Please reject BJP and save the country from fake leaders. (not necessarily Rahul has to be a future PM)

If the BJP and indeed Modi have nothing to hide, then they could have avoided all the speculation about the involvement of the Chowkidar himself. By continuing to remain in denial, they are indeed convincing all the the PM himself is Guilty of Corruption in this scam. At best hey can stal the issue until the general elections so that they dont get wiped out in the elections, but people are shrewd and will pronounce the verdict if Truth is hidden from them.

Pai, Mangalore — no one is bigger than the Supreme Court, but the Govt even lied to the Supreme Court with fake documents thinking it is greater than the Supreme Court. Now Modi and Nirmala Sitaraman think they are bigger than the Supreme Court by trying to defend their lies with bigger lies!!!

I heard Nirmala Sitharaman's speech in Parliament. She was waving papers around swearing that they were facts and making fun of the UPA government saying that they did nothing for HAL and that her government has placed orders worth 1 lakh crores with HAL for various aircraft and equipment.

HAL has clarified that they have not received any orders from the government as claimed by Sitharaman.

Now that she is caught lying and that Rahul Gandhi has challenged her, she is changing her tone saying that what she said was that the orders are under process and in the pipeline...…………...Seems that the BJP's pipe line is very long hahahahaha.
    Another jumla exposed.
