Gaw Kadal massacre anniversary: JKLF chief Yasin Malik arrested


Srinagar, Jan 21 (Agencies): Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik was arrested on Monday to prevent from leading programmes on Gaw Kadal massacre anniversary, said a spokesman.

He said Malik was arrested from his residence in Maisuma area of Srinagar on Monday morning.

Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik has called for a shutdown in Gaw Kadal and adjacent areas to mark the 29th anniversary of the massacre.

At least 51 civilians were killed after paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) opened fire on demonstrators at Gaw Kadal on this day in 1990.
