Mangaluru, Jan 24: St Agnes College (autonomous), here recently organized an awareness programme on 'Big Data Analytics' at the conference hall.
Prof Chris Lewis from US, former vice president of Merrill Lynch, Current Bank of America, New York with an experience of 30 years as senior global management ( USA, Europe and Asia) in the fortune of 100 multinational organizations was the resource person for the programme.
Big Data is transforming the business, social interaction and the future of our society. There is a huge need for Big Data Analysts. It is estimated that there is shortage of 1,40,000 to 1,90,000 people with data analytical skills to fill the demand for jobs in one country (US). Due to this demand the salaries of Data Analysts shot up to third place (first for physician doctors, second for dentists and third for data scientists) in US.
This programme was arranged to create an awareness among youth about the importance of Big Data Analytics (Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Deep Reinforcement Learning) for a better future. Total of 127 students from final year BSc and BCA with Statistics, Computer Science background representing 12 institutions of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts participated in the programme. Sr Dr M Venissa AC, vice principal, St Agnes College presided over the function and announced to the gathering that St Agnes College will be starting MSc programme in 'Big Data Analytics' from the next academic year.
Shubharekha, HOD of statistics welcomed the gathering. The resource person focussed on the importance of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Reinforcement Learning and how these concepts are used in Data Analytics. He also explained the function of data analysts as well as scope and opportunities for data analysts.
The students enthusiastically participated in the talk and made the best use of this awareness programme. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Anushree Raj, HOD of BCA.
