Mangaluru Jan 25: Congress South block and Mangaluru constituency will take out padayatra from Talapady to Pumpwell on January 28, against the incompletion of Thokottu and Pumpwell flyover, informed former MLA J R Lobo.

Addressing media here on Friday, January 25, J R Lobo said, "It is 10 years since the construction of Pumpwell flyover started and it is still not completed. Even the development of KPT and Nanthoor has been sidelined. The development work of tunnel in Shiradi Ghat which was proposed by then minister Oscar Fernandes, was sidelined soon after Modi government came to power. We all know the pathetic condition of National Highway from Mangaluru to Bengaluru and the work has been stalled.”

“Usually for development of roads or any work, you need 4-5 years but even after 10 years the Pumpwell flyover work seems stagnant,” he lashed out.

“Recently, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has called a meeting with engineers and consultants in the presence of police officers. During the meet, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel was seen threatening the officials and warned them of arrest if work is not completed. I have never come across such an instance where a meeting is called and an open threat is given to officials in the presence of police. This shows the failure of MP Nalin Kumar Kateel,” said J R Lobo.

“MP Nalin Kumar Kateel had set December as the deadline and then it was continuously extending. Pumpwell is the place where it floods during the rainy season. Presently the work has been stopped and there is no drainage facility. We need to be alert for the consequences in the rainy season,” he added.

He further said the padayatra will be conducted in the presence of district-in-charge minister U T Khader, former minister Ramanath Rai and district Congress president Harish Kumar. Padayatra will start from Talapady and conclude with a public meet at Pumpwell.

Congress spokesperson A C Vinayaraj, mayor Bhaskar Moily and others were present.

It has taken 6 to 8 years time to construct a Flyover at Pumpwell (600 metres) . Now the work is in initial stage and it is not known when the work will be completed. Nalin Kumar, MP just fooled us by saying it will be completed by Feb.19. sheer nonsense. When it was completed within 6 to 8 years can we expect that it be be completed within 2 to 3 months time.? Only miracles to happen.

Under the able leadership of then Congress President Ms Sonia Gandhi the task of building Pumpwell & Thokkottu flyovers were handed over to former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Rajasekhar Reddy's Navayuga Engineering Company. Now it is duty of Sonia Gandhi's daughter to see that Rajasekhar Reddy's son YS Jagamohan Reddy completes this project. Congress should hold rallies, padayatras & what not under leadership of Priyanka Gandhi for forcing the union government. Family values should be respected at any cost, dynasties zindabad!

Which party doesn't have dynasties? Let me know. Other than AAP, all parties follow dynasty politics. Coming back to Thokkottu, pumpwell flyovers, it is the duty of Mangalore MP Nalin to see that these are completed soon. Why he wakes up only during election? For the last four and half years he was silent and now started talking. Is it not just to fool the people? If these MP's want only to fire DK, then why we need them?

The work on both the flyovers started by Navayug along with Netravathi Bridge in full swing.
It was then the current MLA Abdul Khader who stopped the work, asking for better design, which he could not change in spite of Congress was in power at the Center.
After the work restarted , Navayug was Raided by CBI/IT , for taking revenge on Jagan Reddy by Congress. All the properties were attached. The work on the Highway stopped completely.
Oscar Fernades did his best to restart the work and failed. It was only after BJP came to power the work on this highway really stated and almost got completed except for Tokkot and Pumwell flyover.
Today Navayug is bankrupt due to all the selfish deeds of Congress. It is the Congress who should be blamed for this entire delay.

    Lobam,
since you raised the issue of rainy season, can you please ask for clarification why the road under the flyover at Pumpwell is the lowest, dug recently to lower it still. Where will the water go when there is heavy rain? Even ordinary rain will make the drainage water flow to the road.

This is what happens if people elect a MP who has no capacity to get anything done and has no say at the centre. May be he got the ticket by mistake. He will probably not be able to get a ticket next time and by chance if he gets one, he will not get elected anyway. Knowing this fully, I dont think he will do anything on completing the projects. It looks like next Govt only can do something. I think people can keep hopes for completion in another 2 or 3 years only. Nothing better than that.

I think Congress as a very weak in opposition to highlight the BJP's failures from last 25 years. This is perhaps one man leadership has spoiled the chances and reputation of its image in the undivided district.
When sitting MP Nalin Kumar has announced Rs14,000 crores development in a press conference, Congress has never asked in writing or RTI filing to ask them in details. It has never questioned the MP when he wanted to burn his own constituency. The party remained quiet when the sitting MP is first to welcome 'Namo' Naresh from jail.
If Congress is ever aggressive during its ruling and pursued the case of RTI activist Prashant Poojari murder, it would have rattled the BJP in entire coastal Karnataka, Malanudu region and the prospective world have been better.
As long as one old man has secret dealing with Sangh Parivar from the party Congress is a dead horse in the undivided district. Unless Congress President Mr. Rahul Gandhi makes some big sacrifice this time party will lose one more time to continue the legacy of British and to convert Mangalore as another Nagpur of South India.
Incomplete Thokottu, Pumpwell flyovers is too little and too late unless groundwork.
