Breaking protocol again, Modi walks on Rajpath

New Delhi, Jan 26 (IANS): Continuing his style of greeting the crowd after the Republic Day parade, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday walked on the Rajpath greeting people amid chants of "Modi, Modi".

Modi has undertaken similar walks earlier too. He broke his security cover after last year's Independence Day speech at the Red Fort when he stepped out of his car to meet school children.

Donning a yellow orange headgear with a red tail and kurta pajama and Nehru jacket, Modi waved to the crowds enthusiastically as he zig-zagged the Rajpath, closely followed by security personnel and his slow-moving motorcade.

The Prime Minister started his walk soon after President Ram Nath Kovind and his South African counterpart and chief guest at the Republic Day parade, Cyril Ramaphosa, left Rajpath.

The crowds appeared pleased to get a glimpses of the Prime Minister from close.

As Modi went close to the seating enclosures, some chanted "Modi, Modi" while others captured the moment on their mobile phones and cameras.

Many came near the makeshift barricades to greet him.

Protocols are a system of rules that explain the correct conduct/procedures in a formal situation.

Modi's most talked-about moments are when he receives visiting heads-of-states with a 'jhappi' at the tarmac. This deviates from protocol which requires junior ministers to receive them. In the past, he has warmly received Barack Obama, Japan PM Shinzo Abe and Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu with "bear hugs".

In another case of protocol-breaking, after former-president APJ Abdul Kalam's death, Modi's government announced a 7-day mourning period honoring India's "missile man." As per official protocol, this is announced only when a sitting president expires.

In Russia PM Modi, known for his crisp manner of speech and brisk functioning, accidentally walked past the guard of honour accorded to him while the Indian national anthem was being played after his arrival. After he realised his faux pas, Modi immediately stood erect and in attention, because as per convention, a person is supposed to stand still when the national anthem is played.

In the past following the accusations made by social media users on Vice-President Hamid Ansari for not saluting the flag on Republic Day. , “ During the Republic Day Parade, the President of India, as Supreme Commander, takes the salute. As per protocol, the vice-president is required to stand in attention.”

Prime Minister Modi has security issue for attending funeral Sir Siddaganga Lingayat Swamiji who server the humanity. But has no problem breaking the protocol when media has more coverage.

Funny to see the sikulars rattled by a small act of Modi.
    This shows thier fear.
This shows that they understand that Modi is able to connect to the masses, whereas thier heridatory leader is lacking far behind.
