Freedom fighter’s daughter cries on stage, asks for govt help

Shahjahapur, Jan 26(DC): The daughter of a freedom fighter on Saturday broke down and asked for the government's help during an event celebrating Republic Day, in which she was the chief guest.

The woman, Rajeshwari Mishra, who has been for the last 40 years, apart of the annual flag hoisting event at the Shahjahapur district collectorate couldn’t control her emotions and wept during her address after the flag hosting ceremony.

Mishra, the daughter of Mahesh Nath Mishra said she had not been receiving any benefits from the government and asked for assistance from the government.

"Jin'ne apni shaheedi, apni kurbani di unki beti aaj thokrein kha rahi hai (The daughter of the person who gave up his life for the country is facing troubles," she told reporters after the event.

District Magistrate Amrit Tripathi told ANI that he got to know that the woman has not been getting any help from the government for many years. He assured that every possible help would be given to the woman.

The Union government had launched a central scheme to grant pension to freedom fighters and their eligible dependents with effect from August 15, 1972, an initiative, which was later renamed as Swatantrata Sainik Samman Pension Scheme in the year 1980.

Stop this nonsense. Is PM Modi alone accountable here? Report says she has not received help from Govt for many years. Modiji became PM only in 2014. What about her status from previous rulers? Now she is aged and unable to eke living. So she has cried. Govt may release of the held up funds of all arrears of all regimes and help her. Please don't be in hurry to blame Modiji alone. District Magistrate (DM) has assured to look into the matter. If PM Modi has held funds, will DM jump into the ring to solve her matter?

Exactly ! If a widow of a freedom fighter, it could be understood. What are her direct family members (sons, daughters) doing ? As per her clothing, she looks a widow.

Moreover, she has been a part of flag hoisting ceremony since 40 years. Meaning, her problem is same as all old people face, not especially because she is a sister of a freedom fighter.
