Udupi: Brahmavar sugar factory will be reopened with an aid of Rs 30 cr: Dr Jayamala

Udupi, Jan 27: District in-charge minister Dr Jayamala on Saturday, January 26 said that efforts are on to grant Rs 30 crore from the government to re-open Brahmavar sugar factory.

Presiding over a meeting held between Brahmavar sugar factory administrative board and farmer leaders at DC's office on Saturday January 26, she said, "On January 30 we will lead a delegation of farmer leaders and factory board members and meet sugar minister R B Timmapur. We will also discuss about keeping aside financial aid in the upcoming budget on February 8." She further said that opinions of sugar factory owners from other districts of the state in this regard to make the factory more profitable.

"A detailed report by experts of MITCON Consultancy & Engineering Services Pune has been prepared regarding re-opening of Brahmavar sugar factory. As per the report, the factory could be re-opened with a government aid of Rs 30 crore. We will also collect Rs 20 crore from co-operative societies for the same," said Brahmavar sugar factory president Jayasheela Shetty.

MLA Raghupati Bhat also assured of reopening the factory.

DC Priyanka Mary Francis and other farmer association representatives were present.

    Instead of opening Sugar Factory use that money to unemployed youth to start business. If u distribute 5 lac each then 600 youth's can start business. Give this sugar factory land on lease to these un employed youths. Then see the result. Starting sugar factory project again is not a good idea .

    Sugar factory is not just making sugar
    It provides good market for farmes sugarcane
    It gives avenue for Paper industry through Baggasse
    It gives avenue for Alcohol industry through Molasses
    Now alcohol is used for Ethanol blending of Petrol in fact used as fuel as well
    Gives jobs to hundreds of youth
    Also ancillary businessses like food transport will also flourish

    This investment will be a waste, there is no sugarcane in the vicinity. Same opinion was from me in 1982. Factory ran less than six months annually . Please begin a central government industry like Railways or defense industry related mass manufacturing units to employ local as to help local strong economy.
