Udupi, Jan 29: The Udupi district level 18th ‘Makkala Sahitya Sammelana’ on the occasion of the 156th birthday of Swami Vivekananda will be held on February 2 at Smt Rukmini Shedthi Memorial National Government First Grade College, Barkur.

The event will be held under the aegis of Shantivana Trust (R), Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala, Udupi District Education Department, barkuronline.com, Shree Ram Krishna Ashram, Belagavi and Mangaluru, Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Barkur and Kannada Sahitya Parishad, Brahmavar.

The 18th Makkala Sahitya Sammelana will be inaugurated by Babu Shiva Poojary Barkur a prominent writer at 9.45 am. Sweekrathi Shetty, 8th standard student of Shubhadha English medium school Byndoor will preside over the event.

Children’s poetry compilations will be released on the occasion by Ashok Bhat Chantar, president, Kannada Sahitya Parishad, Brahmavar. B Sitaram Tolpadittaya, secretary Shanthivana Trust (R) Dr I Shashikanth Jain, yoga instructor, Eric L Soans, compere and Konkani writer, and K Vasnthraj Shetty, lecturer, SRMS national government first grade college Barkur, will be guests of honour.

Children’s poetry reciting competition will be presided over by Pranamya, an 8th standard student of Venkataramana English medium school Kundapur. Dr Prajna Marpalli, Kannada Lecturer Poornaprajna Degree College, Udupi will coordinate the programme.

Concluding ceremony will be held at 3.45 pm. Neelavara Surendra Adiga, president, Udupi district Kannada Sahitya Parishad, will deliver the concluding speech. S Nityananda Padre, former senior sub-editor Udayavani, will be the guest of honour.

Various discussions on literature related issues will be held throughout the day.
