Tokyo Olympics ticket sales process to start in April

Tokyo, Jan 30 (IANS): The organizers of the Tokyo Olympic Games said on Wednesday that ticket applications for the sports event in 2020 will start as early as April, local media reported.

Those in Japan can register for buying tickets in April for any of the 33 sports on the official ticket selling website, according to the schedule of ticket allocation revealed on Wednesday.

However, successful applications will not be announced until June 14 when Japan's new law against ticket scalping takes effect, reports Xinhua news agency.

As to payments, the applicants can use a VISA credit card or pay cash at convenience stores.

The first batch of ticket allocation includes packages of 2,020 yen (18 U.S. dollars) for wheelchair users, and families or groups with children, senior citizens or individuals with impairments.

In addition, the sales of first-come, first-served tickets will begin online in fall this year, and tickets will be allocated at designated stores in Tokyo starting from spring in 2020.

The Tokyo Olympic Games will be held from July 24 to August 9 in 2020, followed by the Paralympics from August 25 to September 6.
