Kamal Nath smells Rs 3,000-cr scam in farm debt, orders inquiry

Bhopal, Jan 31 (IANS): A fortnight after launching Rs 50,000 crore farm debt waiver scheme named as 'Jai Kishan Rin Maafi Yojana' in the state, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath on Wednesday claimed over Rs 3,000 crore farm debt scam had come to light during the process of his new scheme for the welfare of farmers.

The Chief Minister said an inquiry has been ordered and officials have been told to lodge complaint in police stations about irregularities.

Calling the farm debt as a "very big scam", Nath said the irregularities came out when "we started preparing a list of farmers who are under debt" as part of our 'Jai Kishan Rin Maafi Yojana'.

He said the procedure began on January 15 when he announced the farm debt waiver scheme.

"The irregularities came out one by one as the procedure of filing loan waiver forms was started to maintain a list of exact number of farmers whose farm loans should be waived. During the process, we came to know that there were various farmers who did not take loans but they were under debt. There is debt against those farmers who have died some ten years ago," Nath told reporters.

The chief minister said several complaints regarding farm debt have been received so far and the process is still on.

"Cooperative banks have sanctioned several forged loans. Most of the farmers have complained that they did not take loans from any bank, but they are under debt. Such farmers are on the list of debtors. This is a very big scam. There is Rs 2,000 crore to 3,000 crore scam in it. We never thought that such a scam would come out," Nath said.

Hailing his 'Jai Kishan Rin Maafi Yojana' a milestone, Nath said it would benefit 55 lakh small and marginal farmers.

Nath said the loan waiver forms would be submitted till February 5 and the farmers would start getting the benefits of the scheme from February 22.

    Sanjeev Kamath,

Congress did not go to issue loans but kept its promise and started waiving debts. At this time it found out that loans were given to fictitious applicants.

Read correctly before accusing Congress in place of BJP.

THE BJP WAS RULING FOR 15 YEARS AND THEY HAVE TAKEN THE LOANS IN THE NAME OF FARMERS FROM CO-OPERATIVE BANKS AND FROM PUBLIC SECTOR BANKS.

HOW COME THE CO-OPERATIVE BANKS AND THE BANKS HAVE ISSUED LOANS TO FARMERS. THE FARMERS HAVE NOT AT ALL TAKEN LOANS???!!!

THE FARMERS HAVE DIED AND IN THEIR NAMES LOANS WERE ISSUED.

HOW IT IS ISSUED MONEY IS POCKETED OR THE CHIEF MINISTER SHIVARAJ SINGH CHAUHAN HAS GIVEN TO ITS ASSOCIATES

THE TRUTH WILL COME OUT SOON AFTER THE ENQUIRY.

BRHASTA JUMLA PIRKIS.- BJP WILL BE CAUGHT TO DUMP BEHIND THE BARS.

Read the article thoroughly before posting your comments, the loan waiver scheme is of Kamalnath government and the farmers in Madya pradesh are protesting for including thier names in the defaulters list even though they had not taken any loan from these banks. please do not blindly follow any political party or person, all the political parties and politicians are corrupt and they do not feed us.

    Mr. Joe,

Your flawless control over English literature made me your admirer for a minute. Only what is lacking is that you are thinking its Kamalnath who gave the loan to ghost farmers.

Please read again - loan was issued by BJP ruled ex-government of MP. Luckily for the nation that the government changed. Else, just as the ghost farmers (non existing, fictitious) were given loans, the waiver money too would have gone in the pocket of BJP chelas.

I am not saying that kamalnath has given the loan, what I want to highlight is waiving loans is a bad policy, poor farmers get nothing from this, it is politician/bureaucrats/bankers nexus who benefit from this.
